Pescara: smog e malattie respiratorie. Ne parlano all’Auditorium Petruzzi del Museo Genti d’Abruzzo studiosi durante il convegno “I giovani e il respiro: inquinamento e ambiente, gli effetti nell’età dello sviluppo”. Da un recente rapporto del Ministero della Salute è emerso che in Italia le malattie respiratorie, dopo quelle cardiovascolari e le patologie neoplastiche, rappresentano la terza causa di morte e si prevede che siano destinate ad aumentare. Gli esperti chiedono di iniziare un programma di prevenzione tra i bambini e gli adolescenti che coinvolga le Istituzioni, richiamandole ad adottare politiche di tutela ambientale in linea con gli standard europei.
Gli studiosi riferiscono che ” l’incidenza delle malattie respiratorie tra i bambini e gli adolescenti in Italia è pari al 15% e l’Abruzzo non si colloca al di sotto di questa media. Anche nella regione verde d’Europa i fattori determinanti le malattie respiratorie sono multipli, ma un ruolo chiave è rivestito dall’inquinamento atmosferico, sia all’aperto che indoor, visto che almeno il 90% dei residenti nelle nostre aree urbane, sopratutto i bambini e gli adolescenti, sono esposti a livelli di inquinamento atmosferico superiori ai livelli di guardia stabiliti dall’Oms. Gran parte dei bambini nella nostra regione è regolarmente sottoposta al fumo passivo nelle mura domestiche, almeno il 15% dei bambini e degli adolescenti che vivono in case molto umide manifestano patologie asmatiche e l’esposizione ai prodotti gassosi derivanti dalla combustione di carburanti solidi è un fattore determinante nell’insorgenza delle malattie respiratorie “.
